Chip repair process
There is usually a four-step process to repairing a chip in a windscreen.
Firstly, after cleaning the windscreen, the damaged area is actually drilled out. And then, a repair bridge is placed on the crack. UV resin is then injected through the repair bridge into the chip. A plunger is then used to suck all of the air out. This step is repeated until all of the air is gone. A UV lamp is then used to cure the resin. The UV rays cause the resin to harden and the cracks disappear. A razor blade is then used to remove the excess glass.
Replacement windscreen process
Sometimes the damage on a windscreen is too large to be repaired so it has to be replaced. In order to do the best job possible with your replacement windscreen, we need to be able to open both car doors fully and we need at least 2.5 metres of clearance.
We start by inspecting the vehicle for any damage and then we apply protective covers to the vehicle. All of the trims, wipers and panels are removed and any cameras, mirrors or sensors are disconnected from inside the vehicle. The adhesive is then cut using a thin fibre line so that the frame is not damaged. The screen can then be removed. Any excess adhesive is removed in preparation for the new windscreen. A primer is applied before a 30-minute quick dry adhesive. The screen can then be lifted into place. Any parts removed at the beginning are refitted, connected back up and checked to ensure everything is working as it should.
